Usual first set of questions:

• Which model Pi?
• What power supply are you using?
• Which OS and which major version of the OS? If you're not sure post the output of

  Code:

  cat /etc/os-release

• Booting to desktop or command line?

Then:

• Is it exFAT or FAT32? They are not the same thing.
• Did you partition it before formating it or just format the entire drive?
• Did you format the drive on the Pi or on some other Linux computer?
• What do the following terminal commands report:

  • Code:

    lsusb

  • Code:

    lsblk

• Are there any relevant error messages in the output from

  Code:

  dmesg

When posting command output please wrap it in code tags as this preserves formatting and make sit much easier to see where it begins and ends.
