Previously when a user mentioned installing a Home Automation system in a multi-boot system, someone questioned what the point was, seeing as a Home Automation system is normally on 24/7, so multi-booting into something else would mean the home automation system would not be functional. This is one reason such OSes are not listed in PINN.Hi,
Note that I am a total Raspberry Pi beginner, some complex workaround is not for me.
I would like to multi-boot on a Pi5, with some Home Automation OS, such as Home Assistant, or Domoticz.
I do not want to swap SD cards (1 SD card per OS is not for me).
I tried PINN, but those Home Automation OS'es are not in the list, and it seems that there is no way to add an OS to PINN's list.
Another reason is that they need converting for use with PINN. There are instructions on how to do this on my Wiki, but given "complex workarounds are not for you", this might be a bit tricky for you, especially as each OS may need specific conversion needs. But adding OSes to PINN for your personal use is certainly possible.
Having had a quick look at Home Assistant, it is based on a specific buildroot build and talks about requiring a Grub or Uboot boot loader. This might make it tricky to multi-boot. Domoticz is an application that can run on several OSes, so you could use PINN to install an appropriate Raspberry Pi OS and install Domoticz into that.
The only other Multi-booter I know of is "multi-boot" from RonR on this forum. He states it is only suitable for Raspberry Pi OS based OSes (Debian-like).Seems the answer is BerryBoot, but it is not available for PI5.
Is there any Multi-OS utility to multi-boot on Pi5 including OS'es not listed in PINN ?
It is possible to control PINN's selection of OS to boot via SSH, VNC, CEC (TV remote), Keyboard, Mouse, Touchscreen or Joystick. Unfortunately Bluetooth is not yet an option. Finally, I would like to be able to connect my Bluetooth keyboard in the Multi-OS utility, before chosing which OS to boot from, as I do not have a USB keyboard.
