General discussion • Using RPI to broadcast a 2G signal for older phones

Hello!

I have many unique, old cellphones that I would love to be able to use today in the United States, but am not able to due to their 2G and 3G architecture. I have AT&T for my iPhone, which currently only supports LTE & 5G.

Would it be possible to use a HAT like the Waveshare SIM7600G-H to recieve and transmit calls from my modern GSM AT&T sim card, and use a SDR (Software Defined Radio) to transmit and recieve a 2G or 3G signal from my older cellphone?

Alternatively, for only 3G phones the support WiFi calling, take the 4G signal from the Waveshare HAT, convert it to VoIP with Asterisk, and relay the call over WiFi hotspot?

Also I believe transmission of a GSM signal is against the FCC, but this is just a proof of concept, so any ideas are welcome.

Any ideas or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much! :D
