The latches have a very low duty cycle. They are intended to be installed once and sealed up inside a product.

The USB ports will suffer from wear and tear. Excessive or harsh use is extremely subjective, so it's hard to say if they should have survived in your care. The warranty would cover manufacturing defects but most likely not damage in use.

Replacing the USB ports on later models is a mission as there are many more pins to desolder and clean up. Best to buy a new Pi and relegate the worn one to a project that doesn't need those ports, or doesn't need continual unplugging.
