Too late - too late was the cry!!!You may as well try the img file first (3.8.9d) and see how it looks. Then upgrade to 3.8.9f after a while.You mentioned it might try to update after the first install, should I let it update?
The newer version uses KMS drivers and the vc4 overlay. Some users have reported very small font sizes, but I think it depends on your monitor as I've not been able to reproduce it.

The wallpaper has changed and now there are gaps either side of my screen, whereas the old version filled the screen.
Anyway, I figured I would give it a go and maybe go back to 3.8.9d.
Interestingly on first load up of the new version there weren't many OS options available, I rebooted and a load more appeared?
I am using an old DLink Power Line Adaptor in my shed and its been playing up the past few days speed is currently 0.7MB/sec
