Here's an example of something that pushes the Pi 5 to it's limit but stays smooth:

The FPS font is too small but it reads 70 FPS. That's 1920x1080, just over 2 layers of drawing (including steam) and a moderately expensive heat wave shader.

This game is C++ so not my programming language/engine.

This is under X11, I'm unable to get FPS reading on CLI other than '60' because vsync is broken on Pi 5 (rather when vsync is OFF it's broken.)

EDIT: With Mikael's info, I got about 100 FPS on Wayland. So you could probably squeeze in another layer of graphics and/or some effects.

PS: using high resolution graphics shouldn't make it slower, since this game using a projection to upscale it's the amount of fill that will matter.
